Tailgate & Southern Food
The tailgate starts with a plan. And somebody who remembers the serving spoon.
Evergreen planning notes. Check current official event details before traveling.
Build the menu around the handoff
Choose a centerpiece, something easy to share and a simple vegetarian option. Assign each dish to a person, including the serving utensil. “I thought you had it” is not a menu.
A dip that earns its parking space
Pimento cheese, a bean dip and cut vegetables give guests something to reach for while the main food is being set out. Keep dietary information with each dish and ask guests about allergies before planning the menu.
Set up for actual people
Group the serving area away from the main walkway. Bring labeled bins for utensils, napkins and cleanup. Put spare chairs where somebody can reach them without dismantling the entire tailgate.
End with a better next Saturday
Before leaving, note what ran out and what came home untouched. Send the borrowed dish back clean. Mama keeps records.
